A popular circuit for pre-season testing, Catalunya is arguably one of the best-known tracks to all the riders, especially with its long straights and variety of corners. Also making its way onto the Formula 1 race schedule, Catalunya has been beautifully designed to handle both the supreme force and speed of the four-wheelers, and the frenetic splicing and dicing of the two-wheelers. Not to mention some off-season punishing of the surface by monster trucks!
No matter how familiar the riders are with the circuit itself, the track always throws up unique challenges to the teams and riders: a rough and bumpy surface, high tyre-wear and rapidly changing wind conditions which turn both the preparation and riding into a war of strategy and endurance. However the verdict is in: Rossi rates it among his favourites.
Witnessing the on-circuit dueling is great from most viewpoints, but our favourite spots are the north loop - B/G/C (all about the same) where riders like to show off after winning; and the covered Stand I which not only protects you from the Spanish sun, but is on the last and always exciting corner. This has a particularly nice VIP Village as well – with great facilities and just over the start grid. In fact, in our view, this circuit has the best facilities overall of the tournament, and is a very well-organised event.
Not that it needed any more cool points, but this is in Barcelona after all! If you have never been to this amazing city, then we urge you to cut the Friday practice sessions and join our private tour from a local guide (and moto enthusiast!). This is the city of Gaudi and dozens of other splendours. But it is also one of the most modern and stylish cities in the world – Barcelona is where the rest of the world will be in 10-20 years.
Our packages are in the heart of the city of course, and we offer our Classic package in a lovely 3*+ hotel; our Superior in the St Mortiz 4* and for our deluxe we feature the highest-rated 5* hotel in Barcelona – The Arts. All come with our usual shuttle service on Sat/Sun, guides (Spanish speaking some!), and our Catalunya 2008 merchandise. Our hotels all feature secure parking as well – great for bikers!
We kick off the weekend with a party in the heart of Barcelona where, in addition to the good wine, beer and canapés, we will be sure to have some special presentations and a look at the action of last year.
