62 40 5 2008 2 qatar08 Grand Prix Of Qatar 2008 09/03/2008 07/03/2008 10/03/2008 The season opener is a unique destination that feels like a club meet - teams outnumber spectators! Really set the pace in 2007 as we stood on the main straight watching Stoner walk past Rossi! 2008 will be spectacular as the first night race ever, and of course time for 'Rossi's Revenge'. Catch our 'desert safari' for more action... We've been here since it started in 2004! Qatar is turning into one of the most significant events on the motogp calendar. We've had a season to try out the new 800s, bike rules, teams et al in anger. Now watch the major manufacturers buckle down and try to top Ducati. Does anyone believe Honda and Yamaha, not to mention the others, won't be developing and testing like mad over the winter? Rossi is out for revenge, Casey has a huge title to defend, Nicky as a traditionally 'slow but sure' learner will be on form. Newcomer Lorenzo is sure to upset a few applecarts, and what about our boy Toseland? Qatar is the event where speculation meets the road. Qatar is the eye-opener.

And just to make it REALLY interesting, for the first time ever we will be treated to a night race. Since this isn't Suzuka and we aren't planning to put headlights on as far as we know, the track has to be lit like day! They say this will be the largest lighting for any sporting event in history!

We go 'way back in Qatar - eagerly jumping on it when it was first run in 2004. We probably sell more grandstand tickets than anyone outside of the Middle East, and we dominate the VIP Village. In fact, this year we expect to run our 'Pole Position Club' in a private VIP Village area, bringing in addition to 'normal' VIP benefits, our own touches such as our hosts/hostesses, contests, special gifts, special speakers from the paddock. The VIP Village itself features one of the most breathtaking service road tours in motogp (will it happen at night?) putting you right on top of this unique circuit. And the event is so sparsely attended that seeing riders, getting autographs and photos, and generally feeling like you are on the 'inside' is commonplace. This is definitely an event to go VIP. (And the VIP Village is the only place on the track where you can get beer/wine!)

Since this year will be so special, we have extended our package offerings to meet all budgets. A great value 'Classic' package in a downtown 4* hotel will leave you in comfort (and with a licensed bar!); our Superior package in the seaside Marriott (our 'home' hotel) will spoil you; and if you want to go all-out, join us in the sublime Ritz-Carlton, rated by us as one of the top 3 VIP hotels of the tournament, and always the base for several of the factory motogp teams. Of course for all our packages, we take care of you from the moment you land if you wish, and we will have a team on hand to help with anything.

Our programme is packed, starting with an optional Friday Desert Safari which has become a tradition with us as we descend the 'hill of death' in our 4x4s. Our opening party last year was a huge hit, this year will top it. And Sunday we are planning a very very special closing event after the night race. Leave your diary open! Are we excited about Qatar? Like a newlywed!

You may choose any ticket with any package when booking.

Our Qatar packages are basically the way for you to enjoy this remarkable event without any hassles. From the moment you arrive in Doha, you are under our care.

This is especially important in an exotic destination like this - apart from getting you to the track on time, and ensuring that your room and other services are up to par; you can rely on us to local advice, organising extra-curricular activities, and generally be on hand to help out. Our entire Qatar programme is designed to keep you occupied from morning till late at night! You don't have to participate in all of it, but be warned - our philosophy on a motogp weekend is 'sleep when you are home'!

We have designed our packages to meet all budgets and tastes. In Qatar we have chosen hotels that have a liquor license - which effectively means 4* and higher. Lets face it, we are bikers, and we all enjoy a beer after the race!

Classic is in a very nice downtown 4* hotel, a no-frills room-only package. Choose this to keep costs down -- 3 nights here with a grandstand ticket is under US$500 per person !

Superior is in our traditional 5* Marriott. This is the one to go for if you want top accommodation and the beach. It also has our favourite night club next door - we and we expect many riders will be there Sunday night!

Deluxe is in the beautiful Ritz Carlton. Also 5* but definitely a cut above the Marriot, and the choice for many of the top motogp teams and riders. Choose this for the real VIP experience.

We are happy to sell you just tickets, however in Qatar more than most events, the package really adds an intangible but very cool 'social' element to the 'weekend!
For Qatar there are only two choices: the Grandstand or VIP Village. The price difference reflects the experience difference: profound.

The
Grandstands are covered, reserved seating, but there is little else do do - you cannot see the rest of the track although the TV screen is excellent. This is the place to be at the start and the podium of course; however there are very few merchandise stalls and just one restaurant. Bring a sweater or jacket. Ticket collection will be from the Welcome Centre at the Main Entrance from 17:00, Thursday 06/03/08 with photographic evidence (passport, driving license).

If you can afford it, go
MotoGP VIP Village . You will get superb access to paddock and riders are very easy to spot. The service road tours are fantastic (we can only imagine what they will be like at night!) and of course the food and drink is first class. We will bring in a speaker or two, as well as our own people on hand to help out.
This is one of our best VIP packages of the year. If you are staying at the Ritz you will be in one of the top hotels of the season (go for the club floor - worth the little extra!), and with the VIP suite, you will find yourself in great company.

Of course we take care of you from the moment you land. If you come a few days early, we can suggest additional activities -- and don't forget our Dune Bashing expedition!
GETTING HERE
Fly to Doha. A few people do drive from Saudi Arabia or Kuwait, if you are one of these, you don't need our advice!

Qatar Airways is one of the worlds fastest growing airlines, and direct flights to Doha are increasingly common. Otherwise target Dubai for relatively inexpensive fares, and then there are many shuttle flights to Doha. An odd approach that worked out well for us a few years ago is to fly to Cairo then catch an inexpensive Egypt Air flight to Doha.

Let us know your flight details and we can arrange airport pickup -- this is complimentary on our deluxe & superior packages, a small charge on the classic.

VISAS
Visa regulations have recently been liberalised and it is now much easier to enter the country. Nationals of the following 33 countries can now receive a visit- visa on arrival for a period of two weeks:

USA , Britain , France , Italy , Germany , Canada , Australia , New Zealand , Japan , Netherlands , Belgium , Luxemburg , Switzerland , Austria , Sweden , Norway , Denmark , Portugal , Ireland , Greece , Finland , Spain , Monaco , The Vatican, Iceland , Andorra , San Marino , Liechtenstein , Brunei , Singapore , Malaysia , Hong Kong , and South Korea .

Visas cost 100 QAR (about US$28 , EUR 18, GBP14, AUD 31)

For citizens of other countries; or if you want to save having to queue at the airport, you will need to apply on line
http://www.e.gov.qa/eGovPortal/visaservice/visaservicedetails.jsp

It is not obvious from the web site, but you will need to register first, then you can apply for the visa. To apply, after you log in, click on 'visit visa/apply online' in upper left corner. The application form is diabolical - you need to select 'Joint Tourist Visa'; and if you do not have any dependants leave this section blank (even though it says it is required)

We can help if you need Hotel confirmation - please ask us. If so, please provide us with full names, sex, nationality of each traveller.

ALCOHOL
NO ALCOHOL MAY BE BROUGHT INTO THE COUNTRY, EVEN FOR PERSONAL CONSUMPTION. It will be confiscated, and if you ask, they will give you a voucher enabling you to reclaim it on your way out. However you reclaim the bottle air side, which means you do not have the opportunity to check it in your luggage, so if you change planes at another airport, it will be confiscated AGAIN, but this time as a liquid in your hand luggage!

Drink is available in the international hotels (all our hotels) and in the VIP Village at the track.

WEATHER
In early March the day time is warm but not too hot, low of about 17c to high of 27c. The evening can get surprisingly chilly, so you want to bring a sweater or jacket to the track in the evening! Leave your umbrella home :-)

TOURISM INFORMATION
See
http://www.experienceqatar.com/ for the official tourism gateway. The site hasn't changed since 2004, and the events section scarily doesn't mention the MotoGP; but there is some basic info about the place.
63 39 5 2008 3 jerez08 Gran Premio De España 2008 30/03/2008 28/03/2008 31/03/2008 The European debut and always one of the biggest events of the year. Quench your MotoGP drought with a weekend of bikes, and wash away winter with the local sunshine & wine! Check out our special package with optional helicopter transfer! Super opening party at 16th c. Hacienda with star guests to really put the coming season into perspective! As the opening European event of the MotoGP season, Jerez is always an exciting GP! Who can forget Rossi's pipping of Gibernau at the last turn in 2005, setting the tone for the entire year, or Rossi's dramatic fall at turn one lap one, setting his own pace for the 2006 season! Rossi's domination of the 2007 race lulled us into a false sense of security that Casey quickly shattered at the next race in Istanbul. This is also the official test circuit for 2008, so the riders will have significant practice on it already on their new machines & teams. This race does for the season what the Declaration of Independence did for American politics!

Jerez is also one of the biggest events of the year, with crowds topping 200,000. And when you aren't at the GP, you really want to sample its famous local products and generally take in the always fine weather as a relief to winter blues!

Jerez circuit is a notorious traffic black hole. It is not easy to get there and back from the city of Jerez, and if you don't already have your accommodation, be warned that the city sells out of hotel rooms very quickly!

We are happy to sell you just tickets to the event, but if you want to relax and focus all your attention on appreciating the action and drinking the beer, put yourself in our experienced hands. We have three packages on offer taking care of you for the entire weekend. Our most 'total care' (and incidentally most cost effective) is our
Special Package - 3 nights dinner, bed and breakfast in lovely rural hotel with free evening happy hours; and of course our track transfers and expert guide on hand. Our 'Superior' package is based in a charming 4* hotel in Jerez; with 3 (or more) nights B&B, guide and transfers. Rating as one of our favourite hotels on the planet, the boutique 5* Villa Jerez is our base for our exclusive Deluxe package ; the package includes a Sunday evening vintage Sherry tasting (special guests have been known to drop in!) Do this one with the superb VIP Village for the top experience.

The weekend opens with a party at a grand 15th century Hacienda, built by a conquistador, and complete with its private orchards and wine bodega. We have lined up authentic music and superb food and drink so a great way to kick off the 2008 season! We of course take you there and back (included in all packages)

Finally, we can arrange light aircraft transfers from Seville or Gibraltar DIRECT to the airstrip at the Estacion hotel; and optional
helicopter transfers to & from the track on Sunday make traffic a thing of the past! We have Spanish-speaking guides who are on hand for you 24 hours; and of course our collectable 'Jerez2008' branded merchandise, and our hand-selected grandstands all ensure you will have a weekend to remember!

NEW - Opening party at 15th century Hacienda, featuring guest speaker JULIAN RYDER giving a preview of the 2008 season. Included with Deluxe and Hacienda customers, others may book separately (see Party section)

TICKETS: Last few X1, Especial and R9 discounted heavily for clearance.

SUPERIOR (4*) package SOLD OUT. Just ONE room left in our Deluxe (5*) package - and we have 2 VIP tickets with this!

Several rooms in our HACIENDA package remain. This includes 3 nights 3* dinner, bed, breakfast, opening party, track transfers with free happy hours in evening, and you will meet some of the young GP riders (staying with us). This package with X1 tickets is 500 GBP / 664 EUR per person based on two sharing, cheaper still for triples/quads!

You may choose any ticket with any package when booking.

All our packages include 3 nights B&B, track transfers on Sat/Sun and access to our local team. In addition, depending on the package you get:
DELUXE : 5* city hotel, Friday opening party, Sunday vintage sherry tasting, Polo shirt, special VIP gift
SUPERIOR : 4* city hotel; Polo shirt
HACIENDA : 3* rural hotel, Friday opening party, Saturday happy hours and dinner, Sunday happy hours and Andalusian meal

The Hacienda is the best value for money, Superior & Deluxe put you in the city, with Deluxe being the top boutique hotel in Jerez.
IF YOU ARE BOOKING A PACKAGE, DON'T BUY TICKETS HERE. This is for ticket-only bookings.

All tickets are valid all three days. We recommend X1 for great panoramic views of the latter curves, and Especial with private parking and view over the race-deciding final corner.

Best value for money is R9 - with full general admission access and a view on the slow Dry Sack corner.
Jerez is a great VIP event - the VIP Village is superb, and we have an exquisite hotel in town. We take you to the Hacienda for the opening party; and Sunday night we repeat our insanely successful vintage sherry tasting. In fact, only Saturday night we don't feed you! (and we can make recommendations, or just sample the restaurant at the Villa)

GETTING TO JEREZ

Jerez has a tiny airport, serviced from the UK by RyanAir; from Spain by Vueling, Air Berlin, Iberia and Spanair; from Germany Air Berlin, Condor and TUIfly are good bets.

You can also consider flying to Cadiz (about 45 mins, but a small airport as well); Seville (about 1 hr); Gibraltar (about 1.5 hr drive); Malaga (about 2.5 hr). There are public buses and trains connecting these cities to Jerez, however you might find a car hire the simplest option. If you fly to Seville and you are staying at the Estacion (Hacienda package), then we can organise a light aircraft transfer - there is an airstrip adjacent to the hotel!

Beware: Jerez is a tiny airport, and the services there reflect this. If you plan to hire a car, do it well in advance, there will be no cars available on walk-up!

GETTING TO YOUR HOTEL

If you fly to Jerez, we can organise an airport pickup for you to your hotel, or you can simply take a taxi.

Hotels Villa Jerez, Sherry Park and Guadalete are all located quite close to each other in Jerez city. The Antigua Estacion (Special/ Hacienda package) is located in the village of Villamartin about a 45 minute drive NE of Jerez. Please let us know your travel plans and we can arrange an airport pickup. If sufficient people arrive nearly the same time, we will organise a shuttle van.

If you are driving car or bike, we have secure parking at all our hotels. See our map and directions for the individual hotel. The Antigua Estacion can be a bit tricky to find. If you have a GPS, set it for 5.6515 W and 36.8719 N. You are looking for the A348 from Jerez, then before you get to Villamartin, you take a left on A371 (direction: Las Cabezas de san Juan) then a right onto Carrera de Villamartin (look for sign to airfield / hotel).

GETTING TO THE TRACK

Jerez circuit is situated about 12 km east of Jerez (on same road to Villamartin/Estacion). There is NO public transport there; and taxis are very reluctant to drive there during the motogp. Getting a taxi back is almost impossible, people frequently walk. Of course our package customers will be on the coach with us, if you are there on a ticket-only basis, we recommend you either drive or ask us if we have space available on our coach.

Parking is also tricky -- while there is plenty of parking space, it will jam up and exiting the car park, even on motorcycle, will require patience. We recommend a late departure from the track. VIP Village customers may request a VIP parking pass, customers with Especial tickets also have a private car park near the grandstand. In both cases, long waits to exit are the norm.

If you are in the Estacion, we can organise a helicopter transfer to the track.

GETTING AROUND JEREZ

During the GP, taxis are scarce, and especially on Saturday night, the town is heaving with people; so progress will be slow. Our advice: walk. The town is not that big, you can walk from our hotels to the city centre in about 40 minutes. You will probably be there before the taxi! With the great night life and abundant beer, the walk back will be easy!

64 54 5 2008 4 estoril08 Grande Premio De Portugal 2008 13/04/2008 11/04/2008 14/04/2008 Estoril can boast THE MotoGP race of the century in 2006, and was also the most exciting race of 2007! The track is both the slowest and fastest of the tournament - never dull! And we can't praise enough the charm of the destination and the warmth of the people. We stay in nearby Cascais with several options - our deluxe hotel is one of our favourites anywhere! Plan a few extra days here for your spring break.. Estoril used to be known as the 'sleeper' event of Europe. Well, in 2006 it woke up! Where to start with probably our favourite European destination (apart from Brno!)?

The 4.36 km circuit is one of the slowest overall yet has the fastest straight, second only to Mugello, topping a mind-blowing 340 kph (212 mph)! This final straight 'home run' comes out of the very fast final curve - always action here – and who will ever forget Tony Elias's brilliant slipstreaming of Rossi in 2006, trailing through this turn then slinging past him to win with just a couple of 100ths of a second to spare! 2007 was no less thrilling with Rossi showing Casey just why he is still 'The Doctor'

The new grandstand H is poised to capture the final curve action; while main grandstand A is the only covered, and has a very good TV view. Consider also E in the back corners for a great view on the unique uphill chicane.

Now we turn to the destination. The Estoril coast is one of Europe's best kept secrets – the Portugese keep it to themselves! Long white beaches and the utterly charming fishing town of Cascais will mean you won't be in a hurry to leave! We have a choice of 3 packages, both based in the Cascais harbourfront:

• Our classic package is set in a very nice 3* hotel right on the harbour with all amenities and very good value.
• An all-inclusive 'special' package based in a unique 18th c mansion converted to a guest house
• For VIPs, our Deluxe package is at the sublime 5* Hotel Albatroz, in our view one of the best 5* hotels of the entire tournament! (If you don't believe us, check out tripadvisor.com) And if you really want to toss the anchor out, the stunning suites have private terraces perched above the coastal bluffs.

Of course we open with our usual welcome party. This year it is in the Hotel Albatroz, by the pool to make it a party with a view. We will have a special guest or two and of course the usual drinks and canapés. Because the restaurant is so good we have booked the entire place. Dinner is up to you, but we recommend you take it up!

We ensure you get to the track and back on Saturday and Sunday and if you really want some traditional Portugese culture, Sunday night we organise an optional dinner at a traditional Portugese restaurant, with local specialities, wine; then followed by a field trip to the local club where our customers and many riders met dawn... A perfect end to a perfect weekend!

Friday night opening party in Cascais to feature rising British 125cc star Danny Webb and the deGraaf 125 team. Included for all package customers, others may attend at 55 EUR to cover costs of food and drink.

VIP Village closed, but we may be able to scrounge a couple - phone.

ONE room left in our Special Package at the lovely Casa de Pergola. PHONE to confirm or book online if available. ONE room in our great value 3* Classic package.

General Information

The Circuito do Estoril lies 30 km from the capital city, Lisbon, near the coast. Our hotels are in Cascais – also on the coast, 9km from circuit.

By air

The nearest airport is the Portela Airport in Lisbon (Aeroporto da Portela de Sacavém), located approximately 35 km from the circuit. See www.skyscanner.net or www.expedia.com to find out what airlines will get you there.

By road

There are fast roads links from Lisbon to the Circuit. You may need approximately EUR1.50 in tolls for this journey:
Leave Lisbon via the A5 and continue for approximately 20km. Take Exit 9 onto Avenida Condes De Barcelona, which quickly becomes Estrada da Ribiera.
After approximately 1.5km (and passing through a roundabout along the way) turn left onto the Rúa Principal which then becomes Rúa das Fisgas (both the EM588). This road will eventually run parallel to the N9 motorway and intersect it at a roundabout: at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit (effectively continuing straight) and continue along the N9 By now the circuit should be rearing up on your left-hand side!
At the next roundabout on the N9, take the 3rd exit (turning left) and continue along the Rúa Dom Dinis Bordalo Pinheiro – and you’re there!

Car rental

Contact our partners at Avis, with several rental locations throughout the region to suit your travel needs, and conveniently located at Lisbon and also at Estoril

No public transport

There is no public transport directly integrated with the circuit. However the Estoril railway station is approximately 5km away and a taxi service may be available.
ESTORIL MOTOGP 11-13 Apr 2008
Gordon Howell

As my favourite destination on the calendar (in terms of location), the Portugese MotoGP has become a bit of a personal event; and this report and the photos will reflect this bias! My wife Jana and our 6 month old Alexander attended; his first GP! He loved it...

The Estoril coast and the town of Cascais where we are based is simply spectacular; the people charming, the food great; and all reasonably inexpensive. Now if only the sun would come out...! To be fair this was the first Portguese GP I have been to where it wasn't perfect weather, so they can be forgiven. As it turned out the predictions of a wet race day were not justified!

This is also an event where we have simply wonderful hotels. Our main base was the Hotel Baia right on the Cascais harbourfront; a tranquil retreat (That is, apart from the inevitable MotoGP weekend tendancy for some keen empirical mechanics requiring the night solitude of 4am to discern the subtle changes in engine whine as the RPMs are gently nudged over the red line...) This year we added the exquisite guest house Casa de Pergola; with its stunning gardens and must-appreciated port wine service every evening in the library, and of course our deluxe 5* Hotel Albatroz.

We got straight into things with a welcome drink on Thursday night. Now for a European event and us, one thing people notice is a tendancy of a number of very young and very fast kids to hang around... Not the ones sharing the drink, I hasten to add (those will be the parents!), but participants in the 2008 Red Bull Rookies Cup. We are fortunate enough to help some of the riders and their entourages get around the events; and we even sponsor two of the guys ourselves. So it is quite interesting to have a chat with the kids and relive the days when we too were indestructible. Somehow after a few drinks we found ourselves in the local Irish bar. This was to be a recurrent theme of the weekend...

Friday several of us spent a sputtering wet day at the track, most of the time in the interesting back section; grandstand E. If you come to Estoril, you really want to make it around to this area for some of the action. The slowest curves in MotoGP are here, with the notorious uphill chicane, and you get views in many directions. It has to be said that the facilities at the Estoril circuit are not good: no reserved seating, pretty poor catering and merchandise, but worst of all, you cannot move from one area of the track to another with any ticket. This is a shame for a circuit that consistenly provides very exciting racing with many unique features. We have suggested to the track that they permit all grandstand ticket holders of 'superior' stands to gain access to the 'E' area (and the equally interesting small Peao or standing area)

Friday evening we held our opening reception, at the Hotel Baia. Our special guests at this were the Dutch 125cc team de Graaf. They are one of the most interesting teams in the paddock today - as a privateer team they are showing great results. We sponsor the young British rider Danny Webb. Danny got his first points in Motegi the previous year, and in effect 4 races later he took an astonishing 6th place in Qatar. (see our report on that race). His American team-mate Steve Bonsey also showing great improvement. The third rider on the team is Dutch rookie Hugo van der Berg, still to get his first points. The drinks and buffet went on way longer than planned, as few of the 60 or so guests left at the designated time! Most got an opportunity to chat to the riders, the rookies, team members and parents; and of course each other! On a personal note, this was the first time our wee Alexander was presented to the MotoGP community, and he virtually upstaged Danny, Hugo and the Rookies! Somehow a largish group of us ended up at the Irish bar where many promises were forged, futures made rosy and Irish songs mutilated initially by the resident artists and subsequently by our imports (why do we always end up with large Irish contigents on our events?!). Thankfully Alex slept through it all...

Rumours that a number of the group went off in search of nightclubs were only substantiated by last-second bleary-eyed arrivals at the Saturday morning coach!

Saturday, in blustery damp conditions, produced some stunning qualifying results. Topping the list was the incredible performance of the de Graaf team we had met Friday night. As if to thank us, they put two riders on the front row -- Steve Bonsey on 2nd and Danny Webb on 4th. Amazing. Only tournament leaders Corsi and Terol were up there with them. The 250cc grid was shaping up to be a replay of the Simoncelli/Bautista battle. In the MotoGP, we had early seen Jorge Lorenzo in the paddock, and wished him well. He expressed satisfaction with the circuit and the bike setup. He then went on to score his third consecutive pole position of the year. Pedrosa lined up second, and Rossi third (and Brit James Toseland putting in an impressive 6th). We run a little game at most events; the Pole Position game; for which people try to predict the front row of the MotoGP grid. One of our customers who had been with us in Estoril the previous year, was known as the 'Lucky Irishman' because of his success that year. People were relieved to hear he did NOT win the Pole Position Game. His wife did. She picked the row exactly...

The highlight of Saturday was at the end of the day at the track. The Rookies Cup race - as they usually are - was a real edge-of-the-seat affair. We took some of the group over to the Rookies paddock to watch the race from there (a pet peeve is that they do not televise the Rookie Cup races in the VIP Village. We are leaning on Dorna to correct this) One advantage in watching from the Rookies Cup tent itself, is that we were there with the parents. The entire race was a toe-to-toe duel between American JB Beach and Norwegian Sturla Fagerhaug. Since most of our customers had met Sturla at the Friday reception, we were all leaning a bit on his side, and his parent were sitting on thne couch glued to the CCTV. Every pass back and forth (and there were many!) could be felt from the excitement and tension in the room! In the very last seconds, the Japanese rider Daijiro Hiura, who had been shadowing the pair for the entire race, dove in between them coming out of the last curve, and snatched victory by a wheel rim. Beach took second and Sturla third, with just a few thousands between them all! The real winners were the crowds -- keep an eye on these races!

Saturday night was unscheduled; we took a small group to a very local restaurant off the tourist trail, and had a great meal. Rumour has it some of the crew ended up at the Irish bar...

Sunday everyone was happy the weather held back, and the racing was pretty much dry and without the horrible wind driving straight into the faces of the people on the main grandstand. However the track was still damp for the warmups, and it made guessing what to put on the race a real black art. Fortunately all the races were ultimately conducted in the dry.

Unusually, the first up was the 250 class. No contest here, as Bautista totally dominated, with Simoncelli running a pretty uncontestable 2nd. Uncontestable by anyone save perhaps an aggressive Finn... Mikko Kallio made up a huge gap to catch Simoncelli right at the end - just missed overtaking out of the final curve for a suddenly thrilling finish. The MotoGP race started as a great 3-way battle btween the front row riders. Jorge pulled away, and went on to win his first MotoGP. Dani got past Rossi near the end, and the three finished just as they had started. Sadly Andrea Dovisioso, one of the most surprising rookies this year, crashed, as did unfortunate Nicky Hayden. We saw Nicky onm Saturday and he was the most confident we have seen him in a while. Colin Edwards took 4th, making it 3 of the top 4 for Yamaha.

Finally we got to see the 125s and our boys from de Graaf battle it out. Corsi and Olive had a great duel for the entire race; with Corsi taking the win, and Terol taking 3rd. However the next two spots went to Steve Bonsey and Danny Webb rounding out an astonishing weekend for our team de Graaf! Their pit was conveniently just under the VIP Village, and since the day was over; many of the VIPs were able to get into the paddock to congratulate the team.

Sunday night we had our traditional winding-down dinner. This was another great meal with many bottles of wine and a closing toast with the drink Portugal is famous for... A perfect end to a perfect weekend.

One other bit of news on Sunday really left us happy -- leading up to the race there were constant rumours that this might be the last Estoril MotoGP. Thankfully, Dorna and Estoril circuit announced that racing would continue until at least 2011. So my favourite destination will continue to be .. my favourite! We will be expanding our presence here next year. The family spent the following week on holiday in Portugal, and notably the incredible town of Sintra. We stayed in a sublime hotel, Lawrences, which turns out to be the second oldest continuously operating hotel in the world. With only 15 rooms; we have taken the entire place for a very special package for the 2009 GP! Hope to see you there!

For 2008 we are rolling out the 'red' carpet - with a great package and of course our staff on hand to help make this an unforgettable weekend at the most exotic destination of the tourney! Shanghai is the most exotic event of the season; and sure to be a fascinating weekend! Who will forget Dani Pedrosa winning his first MotoGP, in his rookie year! (He even smiled!) or Rossi's bad luck in 2006? 2007 was a spectacular event - this was the GP that Casey really made believers of us all - clocking 333kph down the awesome back straight of the circuit, totally outclassing the Yamaha. On a local note, as big fans of Czech rider Lukas Pesek, his victory in the 125cc was the first GP victory of a Czech rider since 1966 (Frantisek Stastny on a Jawa if you needed to know!)

The track is a monster with plenty of action spots and super-challenging for all riders. The opening corners are a work of pure evil, and as noted the back straight really separates the Ducs from the rest... Most of the stands are closed during the MotoGP (this is mainly an F1 track) but there are still a number of vantage points around that all can access.

The circuit is ultra-modern, great facilities for riders and fans; you can pick up all sorts of interesting merchandise and even the queues for the riders' signature tables are not too long. If you show up on Friday you will have the place to yourself.

Our group in 2007 represented about half the VIP Village and we felt about half the Westerners there! The event at the VIP level has such a small attendance that you feel part of a club, access to the paddock is easy and the rides and teams are all quite relaxed. The paddock itself is amazing - set in an artificial lagoon with roomy team offices set on little islands.

The event is set quite a way out of central Shanghai. Unless you are a real 'China hand' this is an event that we strongly recommend joining the package. Of course we can sell the tickets only to you, but the 'hassle factor' can be quite high and of course you don't share experiences with other like minded adventuresome moto-heads! Also our hotel is superb value for money; you want to go with the club floor on this to get the panoramic skyline bar and free drinks in the evening!

Your weekend begins as you step off your plane (you make your own flight arrangements, we can advise) and we can send a car to meet you. Check into our 4* hotel in Shanghai. Friday night we have an opening reception in the hotel; Saturday and Sunday we take you to the track and back, with our guides on hand all the time to help out with anything. Sunday we arrange a group meal in the heart of Shanghai and then repair to some local clubs along the famous Bund. Never know who you'll meet!
Package price for 2008 actually LESS than 2007! Package 3 nights in Shanghai 4*, breakfast, 2 dinners, party, Sat/Sun transfers & guide plus grandstand tickets for less than GBP 400 per person!

GETTING THERE

Air
The main international airport is Pudong airport located 30 Km outside the city. You can look on www.kayak.com, www.skyscanner.net or www.expedia.com for tickets.

Bus
Local buses are hard work. During the rush hour and the weekends they are packed to the hilt and virtually impossible to board. Stops can also be unpredictable: you may be helplessly carried past your destination. Pickpockets are another drawback, so travel at your own risk.

Car
Only residents can hire a car in Shanghai; we recommend not driving in Shanghai unless you're familiar with the nightmare one-way system and the appalling conditions on the roads.

Taxi
Shanghai's Volkswagen taxis are reasonably cheap and easy to flag down, except during rush hour. Only a few take credit cards. Request the driver to use the meter.

Underground rail
Shanghai's subway system is a dream, and probably the best way to get around town. Trains are fast, cheap, clean and easy, although they can be crowded at peak hour. The new Mag Lev (Magnetic Levitation) line has started regular services between the city and Pudong airport. The 30km (19mi) trip will take just eight minutes
The ticket price is around 40 RMB (US$5.06) for airline passengers with proof of an airline ticket purchase receipt (plane boarding passes are not acceptable). One-way VIP ticket costs 100 RMB (US $12.66). A round-trip ticket costs 80 RMB (US$10.13).
Take the train to Longyang road and from there get on the Line 2 Subway and get off at Jing’an Temple station, the hotel is right across the street.

While there are some fascinating places to stroll through in Shanghai, new road developments, building sites, jam-packed walkways and congested traffic conditions often make walking in most areas an exhausting experience.

Airport Transfers
We can arrange private transfers from the hotel to the airoport. Ask us for further information. Please suply all flight information.
Directions from Hotel Equatorial to the circuit

The circuit is about 30 Km from the city centre. There are two locations for shuttle service to the racetrack which are Shanghai Hongkou football stadium and Shanghai International Gymnastics Center. Package customers of Pole Position Travel will have return hotel-circuit transfers provided on Sat/Sun.

CHINA MOTOGP 2008 2-4 May
Gordon Howell

Our smallest event of the year is also one of the most memorable for those that make it. Friday we took 4 of our VIPs into the circuit and managed to get paddock passes for all. So in addition to checking out the practice action and the initial 125 and 250 qualifying sessions, we met almost all the MotoGP riders and many personalities (just to name a few: James Toseland, Bradley Smith, Randy Mamola, Julian Ryder, Steve Parrish, John Hopkins, Colin Edwards, Shinya Nakano, and of course we caught Rossi and others at least for photos/sigs!) Great fun by all! Only Malaysia gives as good access to riders and teams.

The big news of the day was the horrifying high-side of Jorge Lorenzo; and the talk of the paddock all afternoon was 'would he ride'? No one would know until Saturday morning. His participation in the race, and stupendous charge to 4th place was one of the most heroic performances I have seen since Dani Pedrosa did much the same in last year's Sepang GP (when we saw Dani in the paddock limping out to his bike he was the picture of stoic pain...) Jorge is a real champion and we expect him to finish the season in the top 3.

Friday night we had a cool opening reception on the panoramic top floor of our hotel, the Equatorial.
Peter Clifford , MotoGP veteran (has been to every GP since 1978!), head of the WCM team, Press Officer and coach to the Red Bull Rookies Cup and mentor of many careers, (Gary McCoy, John Hopkins, Nori Haga, James Ellison to mention a few) shared his insights on the season, the bikes, riders, and Rookies. Fascinating. He picked Rossi to win the race. A good man to listen to!

Saturday we spent at the track of course. Most of our customers were in the VIP Village, giving them access to the paddock on pretty liberal terms, and a pit lane walk where one could stand in front of a pit alone! Bradley put in an awesome time for qualifying, taking pole position. Our sponsored 125 rider Danny Webb did pretty well at 8th, considering he was complaining Friday that they couldn't get the bike setup just right, and he was having a hard time getting to learn the track.

Saturday night we went out to a brilliant Szechuan restaurant; followed by a trip to the micro-brewery down the street. Owing to the Irishmen in the group, after we left the brewery we found ourselves in O'Malleys Irish Bar... Sadly while there one of the guys got an SMS reporting the tragic death of Irish legend
Martin Finegan in a local road race. We drank a few in salutation. (Coincidentally, we were participating in a charity ride in Ireland over the weekend, the Rev Up for Down Syndrome Ireland , which we were sponsoring. Our colleague Brett and the 200 bikers with him altered course to participate in the biker funeral procession Monday.)

Sunday dawned to horrible rain and wind; it was almost impossible to walk in the paddock, and the morning warm up sessions were treacherous indeed. Sadly this carried through to the 125 race, which was punctuated by numerous low-sides as riders hit drying or still-wet patches and lost either end. Tyre choice was a black art; the pits we visited seemed to rely more on feng-shui artists than Dunlop technicians! Unfortunately, amongst the many casualties of the race were all three British riders, starting with Bradley Smith who was fighting an aggressive 3rd position; Danny Webb lost his rear end while sitting in a comfortable 6th, and Scott Redding went down near the end of the race. The 250cc race was under better conditions, but still tricky. The biggest surprise of the race was Takahashi, running a sure third into the final corner, when his bike ran out of petrol - not 100m from the finish line! He managed to limp across in about 8th; his unexpected and gut-wrenching misfortune however gave the final podium position to Bradley Smith's teammate, Mattia Passini (who was our prediction for 250cc World Champion well before the season started)

With my favourite rider, Colin Edwards, on pole; and the rain pretty well gone now, we were looking for great things in the MotoGP race. We weren't displeased, but when Colin went wide in about lap 7 he lost his lead, and ended up a somewhat disappointing 7th. A great 2-way duel between Pedrosa and Rossi brewed, but never turned into the nail-biting action we were anticipating, with Dani's decision to back off a couple of laps from the end and take 2nd. The Rossi victory was a joyful event - ending a long-overdue drought. Rather than his usual winning antics; Rossi just pulled up to the wall after crossing the line, shook hands with the journalists there, and then simply sat down to savour the moment. With no crowds, apart from the main stand, a victory lap wasn't a real possibility; but coming finally back into the pit lane, he was greeted with rapturous applause.

Sunday we also had a bit of fun -- two of our customers got to be grid girls! Sarah & Vanessa donned team de Graaf outfits, and Sarah stood umbrella for Danny Webb, Vanessa got Steve Bonsey. (Vanessa went on to be the grid girl for Nicky Hayden, but we don't take any credit for this! Well done Vanessa!) Some great photos...

Sunday night we hit the famous Bund on the waterfront, and had another great dinner with spectacular views of the river; followed by a visit to one of the hundreds of super-glitzy Shanghai bars. Unlike last year, we did not bump into Jorge celebrating his birthday. In his (painful) shoes, I would have celebrated the evening in bed...

On a side-note, I was fortunate to share the airplane back with the entire Italian team
Matteoni , whom we sponsor and paid many visits to the pits over the weekend. They have agreed to come talk to our customers at our opening party at Mugello, along with veterean 250 rider Alex Baldolini (who speaks excellent English), and over the 10+ hours flight I got to learn many technical details of the 250cc GP bikes!

Sadly, this was the final show for the Chinese MotoGP. A very interesting love/hate track with the longest straight in MotoGP. Heading out to the airport on the Maglev - the fastest train in the world, we passed 343 kph (ultimately to 430) which was the fastest speed ever recorded on the 800cc motogp bike, this weekend by Casey Stoner. This is just short of the all-time fastest speed of 347 (Capirossi, in 2004 Catalunya) Wow. That is FAST!

Hottest rumour for China replacement is Hungary. We of course will be there, or wherever, obviously with our base in Prague, we would be delighted for another event in our 'back yard' !

66 43 5 2008 6 lemans08 Grand Prix De France 2008 18/05/2008 16/05/2008 19/05/2008 If you've never been to the town of Le Mans you are missing one of the most underrated destinations of the calendar. Home of the Plantagenet family, the medieval streets counterpoint the most stress-free circuit in Europe. We have taken an entire Loire Valley Chateau for an awesome package. Great riding destination! We can accommodate all budgets. Home to the famous 13.65km-long 24 Hours of Le Mans race which began in 1923 and is held on the Circuit de la Sarthe, the Bugatti Circuit takes riders along the old circuit for a fast right-hand 1st corner, through a left-right hairpin combination and under one of the symbols of Le Mans – the Bridgestone Tyres bridge – before leaving history behind and turning in on itself where the permanent 4.18km circuit takes over.

Most riders would agree that Le Mans is a real ‘stop and go’ track, with hard braking, tight corners and hard acceleration. While the teams and riders pit brain against brawn, preparing bikes that are firm under brakes and explosive out of the first-gear corners, fans are definitely the winners at this internationally renowned circuit – no matter who takes to the podium at the end of the weekend.

This was one of the pivotal events in 2007: with the rain threatening all weekend, the heavens broke about 1 lap into the MotoGP, turning the race into torrential chaos. The race that was going to put Rossi back on track ended up seeing Aussie Chris Vermeulen taking his and Suzuki's first victory in MotoGP. Colin Edwards had his first MotoGP pole but his tyres and the wet sent him backwards. But we saw the Union Jack flying for the first time on a podium in as long as we can remember as Bradley Smith took third, as the youngest Brit ever to achieve a GP podium! Well done that man!

Sitting in the dry VIP Village we were spared the worst of it, as were our customers in the covered Privilege Grandstand - our recommendation located right on the fast first right-hand corner. The VIP Village is especially good, offering service road tours in addition to the pit lane and paddock walks.

We love this event so much, we are offering a wide range of packages to share our enthusiasm with others. Based in Le Mans itself, we have our economical
Classic package in a 2/3* hotel. However if you want to rub shoulders with VIPs and some riders, take up our Deluxe package in the top hotel in Le Mans for a truly special weekend. Both packages include track transfers on Sat and Sun, event merchandise and our guide on hand; and both include our gala opening reception at the Chateau.

The what?! Our star package for the weekend is one of our best at any event this year: We have taken over a
Loire Valley Chateau to offer an incredibly good value for money DB&B package in a brilliant setting not far from the circuit, with transfers, meals, sampling of the local vintages; and our usual assistance in all matters. If you really want to be looked after, this is the option! NEW - Opening party to feature guest speaker Chris Jonnum - editor of top USA magazine RoadRacerX and biographer of Nicky Hayden. Will be fascinating talk! Opening party includes dinner, drinks and is open to all customers (included with all packages). Book in PARTIES section.

All packages SOLD OUT. Call for any last minute availability

Our packages are based in Le Mans city centre. All include 3 nights B&B, opening reception, track transfers on Sat/Sun and our guides on hand.

Classic package is in a simple clean 2/3* hotel. This is also the venue for our opening party.
Deluxe package is in the top hotel in town the 4* Concorde Le Mans. This is where many teams and riders stay. The package also includes our special merchandise, VIP gift and dedicated guide.

The Privilege grandstand is just at the end of the main straight, is covered and comes with a Saturday afternoon pit walk; thus it is our most recommended. There are many standing areas with good track views and some with TV. For the best view of a curve, go with Garage Verte . The Carrefour is set a bit back from the track and is not the best viewing in our opinion. However the circuit is quite open and you can wander a lot with any ticket
General Information

Built in 1965 and incorporating a section of the 13.65km Circuit de la Sarthe used for the traditional 24-hour race, the Bugatti Circuit is located 5km south of the city of Le Mans, 200km south-west of Paris.

By air
The nearest international airport to Le Mans is Paris (Charles de Gaul or Orly). Try skyscanner.com to find out what airlines will get you there. From the airport we recommend either driving yourself or travelling on one of the high-speed trains. See section on rail below.

To get around Paris itself, see the interactive map on http://www.ratp.info/orienter/cv/carteparis.php

By road
From Paris – leave to the south along the A6, following signs to the A10 which turns into the A11. After approximately 185 km exit via Sortie 23 and continue along the A28 for 7km. Take the fourth exit at the roundabout and continue along N23 for 12km. Follow the signs until you reach the circuit. If you are coming by bike, please let us know so we can arrange secure parking for you. All our hotels have secure parking available.

Car rental
Many people rent a car from Paris. We can provide a car through our partner Avis if you wish us to arrange this.

By rail
The best public transport to le Mans is the TGV from Paris. See http://www.sncf.co.uk/ for details; we can book you a ticket if you wish although it is cheaper if you just buy on the spot or in advance from their web site. Be warned: these trains frequently sell out! An ordinary return ticket is roughly 35 EUR. The trains from Charles de Gaul take about 1.5hrs; but are rather infrequent. You may also consider a train from the Montparnasse station in south Paris. These trains run hourly; to get there either navigate the metro (a bit of a nightmare if you have baggage) or there is a shuttle bus from the airport (better) (look for Air France bus Paris CDG - Montparnasse or Orly - Montparnasse)

When you get to Le Mans station, it is a very short taxi ride to our hotels; we can arrange a chauffeured service if you prefer. You can also take a tram virtually door-to-door (see below, get off at RÉPUBLIQUE - exit St Martin - for Hotel Levasseur, PRÉFECTURE for the Concorde)

By coach
There is a limited availability of coach connections - we recommend the train. However to get a coach from either CDG or Orly to Montparnasse (to pick up the TGV) see http://transfer.airport-paris.com/air-france-coach-service.htm for connecting coach info

Getting around Le Mans
For the past two years of the GP the town of Le Mans has been dug up putting in a new light rail/tram system. The chaos this has caused should blissfully be over this year and the tram system operational!

You can catch a tram from the Place de la Republique (very close to our hotels) directly to the circuit, or the train station (GARES). You are heading for the station ANTARÉS (This is the red line Université - Antarés). A short walk from the terminus to the main entrance.

Le Mans itself is a walking town - from our Classic hotel to the heart of the medieval town is about 10 minutes or 400m.
GRAND PRIX DE FRANCE 16-18 MAY 2008

Le Mans is one of the smallest MotoGP events in Europe, but it is hard to know why. We leave Le Mans with the overriding impression that this is an event that is almost perfectly put together.

The town of Le Mans itself is charming, easy to walk and a medieval quarter dating from the 11th century which leaves people speechless. However the star attraction of the town is the new tram system. The past two years we have had to endure the construction and disruption of the roads. Now we reap the benefits! The tram, amongst other places, goes directly to the track - essentially door to door from our hotels. It was so convenient that less than half our customers even bothered to use our coach! We English speakers sometimes take a jaundiced view of the French, a reputation of poor service and surliness which is wholly undeserved; especially in Le Mans. All the people we dealt with, from police to bartenders, clerks or drivers, were incredibly helpful and friendly.

We were based in 2 hotels right in the city centre, it would be impossible to get a better location. The exquisite Hotel Concordia featured an eccentric and delightful bar tender, who insisted we try (at no charge!) his latest creations. Considering the rest of the customers at the hotel were Dorna and Repsol Honda (with Dani Pedrosa) he was probably happy to see us as the others didn't strike us as heavy drinkers. Somehow my mental image of Dani does not picture him behind a large pina colada... Our main base was the Hotel Levasseur, the French prototype of Fawlty Towers run by the irrepressible Francois. Everyone loved the place, and its adjoining restaurant and bar saw a lot of the group over the weekend! The French really do have their priorities right: a 5* restaurant attached to a 2* hotel.

Festivities commenced on Thursday with a happy hours at the Levasseur and a chance to get to know each other and sample the great selection of draft beers. Le Mans is a great biking destination from the UK and most of our customer had arrived this way (the secure parking garage under the hotel was much appreciated. Friday a small group went up to the track to catch the practice action. Thanks to Italian Team Matteoni (whom we sponsor) we were able to grab a few paddock passes, and several fortunate customers were able to get a view of the paddock and saw several GP riders, and had chats with British riders Bradley Smith and Danny Webb. Danny later gave us all a big fright after a bad high side, from which he was unable to get up and had to be evacuated by ambulance to the hospital. He suffered damage to his hand, ankle and most worryingly, his lower back. Several hours of concerned text messages later, we finally learned the hugely relieving news that he was all right, nothing broken, just a lot of bruising and pain. When we caught up with him Saturday he confessed to pains in his lower back, his rear, arms, and probably elsewhere. However he ran the Saturday practices, qualifying 15th; while not a brilliant position, a brave effort!

Friday night we had our opening reception; 40 people joined us at the Levasseur for a great dinner and drinks; a review of last year's rainy race and a great talk by editor of American RoadRacerX magazine and Hayden biographer, Chris Jonnum. Chris gave us some insights into the struggle of Nicky as well as other background on the MotoGP world. Dinner was followed by a quintessentially French cabaret, with players of indeterminate sexes and song and dance performances just slightly less than rude. It was a riot. For some, the reception, dinner and cabaret needed to be rounded out with a what-is-now-becoming-traditional visit to the local Irish pub; alas this reporter had to abandon the gala about 2 am so I am unable to report on further excitement. Let's just say the group all missed the Saturday morning bus! (however a huge advantage of Le Mans is this new tram system which worked to their benefit!)

Saturday qualifiers continued to show what an exciting season this is shaping up to be, in all classes. Home-favourite Mike de Meglio was showing the best times in the warmup, and ended up 6th on the grid; Sergio Gadea hanging on to pole from his Friday time. Bradley Smith managed to move up to a great 2nd place in a day of threatening rain. In the 250 it looked like the favourite Alvaro Bautista was sitting comfortably in pole, but on his final run, with no time on the clock, Alex Debon snatched pole position by a mere 1 one-thousandth of a second. You can't get any closer! Finally, the MotoGP qualifiers kept us on the edge with the rejuvenated Colin Edwards holding the top slot for most of the latter half of the session. After his pole at China, and his first pole here in Le Mans last year, he was looking a good bet. However Dani Pedrosa had been showing dominating form all weekend, and to be honest we were not surprised to see him take pole with a couple of minutes remaining. Colin couldn't top this, but a 2nd place on the grid is hardly a poor starting position; and with Rossi taking the last place on the front row, we knew this was going to be a cracker of a race.

On Saturday we usually play our 'Pole Position Game' where customers predict the MotoGP qualifying front row. Pedrosa was an obvious choice, but not so Colin on 2nd. One customer, Mark Dougan from Perth, Australia, picked it exactly, and his prize was one of our Le Mans ball caps signed by Randy Mamola, Colin Edwards and Loris Capirossi.

For us, the main event of the day was the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race. These events never fail to be thrilling, and this was no exception. A huge 1-2 on-track rivalry has developed between the Spaniard Luis Salmon and American J D Beach. Of the three races so far, JD has taken 3 second places (twice behind Luis), and he vowed to take the win in France. The entire race was a duel between the two, but JD couldn't manage to get past the tenacious Spaniard. In the end, he settled for his 4th second, leaving him just 8 points shy in the tournament. However the excitement was not just at the front - a superb 3-way contest for 3rd lasted the entire race, with the leader of the group constantly changing between the two Frenchmen, Nelson Major and Florian Marino, and the German Daniel Kartheininger. In the final lap Major just slipped inside of the German on the last corner; to the delight of the local crowd. It was not the last podium to be occupied by a Frenchman in the weekend.

While on the subject of the Rookies Cup, our deep sympathy is extended to our sponsored rider Scotsman Deane Brown. In the previous weekend at the BSB in Brand Hatch he has a terrible high side crash, and re-broke his femur (snapped the steel strap which was holding it in place after his break last year, and the leg was re-broken). After a gruelling 5 hour operation, his bone has been replaced by a steel rod, and prospects for his return to racing are good; however he will miss the rest of the season in both BSB and Rookies Cup.

Saturday night a group of us sampled dinner in the medieval town, sitting in a lovely garden happy the the on- and off-again rain had abated. The restaurant Fabrique serves traditional Alsatian flamme (a pizza-like concoction that is wholly delicious), washed down with the Belgian beer on draft is part of the great charm of being in France.

Sunday dawned with rain a virtual certainty. Thanks to our early departure and the track's enlightened policy of permitting buses to drive straight to the main entrance, we arrived on the dot of 0830 to ensure a full day without the traffic experience. All the bikes had wets on in anticipation of rain, which was sporadic all morning. The opening race of the 125s was one of the strangest 125 races we have seen. Bradley Smith had a terrible start, dropping to 19th; and then worked like a dog to fight his way back to 9th. Danny Webb, also starting from a poor position and racing in great pain, managed to pull himself up to the front of his group, running about 7th. It started sprinkling with rain, which for a MotoGP bike would probably not affect things, but the light 125s started dropping like a flock of ducks startled on hunt day, and race direction red flagged the race. The race was restarted with just 5 laps to run using the positions occupied at the end of the 14th lap. This turned out to be a wonderfully lucky occurrence for Bradley who otherwise was facing a near-hopeless quest for a podium. Bradley quickly worked his way to the lead; but as the rain came down harder, the local hero and wet weather expert Mike De Meglio got past Bradley and held on for an historic win -- the first time a Frenchman had won a GP since 1979. The crowd went wild! Bradley's fantastic second place finish was a reversal of his fortunes that he really needed. Nicol Terol took third.

Our Danny Webb's luck was the opposite of Bradley's - on the sighting lap of the restarted race, his bike slid out; to no damage apart from renewed pain to Danny, but he broke his foot peg. He ran the entire rerun not only in pain, but with a broken right foot peg, making racing quite difficult as you might imagine. His finish, although not in points, was a great testimony to his courage and endurance!

The 250 race was won both inside and outside the pits. Alex Debon, one of the real GP veterans, and usually a middle-pack finisher; exploited his incredible pole position with a huge gamble to run full dry-weather slicks despite the wet track. This paid off handsomely as the rain did not return and he built up an impregnable lead to take his first ever, much deserved, GP win. Bradley's team-mate, and our choice for 250 world champion, Mattia Pasini, fought a great race in a closing duel with the formidable Marco Simoncelli. Mattia was looking a sure bet for the 2nd place, when Marco pulled a manoeuvre more reminiscent of Mattia's style - slipping under him just at the last corner to shoot past and take 2nd. Still a great day for Pasini, and Polaris World team who put both riders on the podium! Alas it has been a bad year for our friends, the two Czech riders Karel Abraham and Lukas Pesek - both finished out of the points as did our sponsored Italian rider Alex Baldolini. We'll be giving Alex a push at Mugello!

Finally the race we had all been waiting for. All weekend a Pedrosa win was looking the most likely result, but for the first half of the race, any of the four leaders, Dani, Valentino, Colin or Casey could have taken the lead. It was Rossi, unsurprisingly, who pushed through, and once he got in front, he was there to stay. Casey got ahead of Colin, and it was looking like Dani and Casey would be sharing Rossi's podium. However the most incredible ride of the race was pain-wracked Jorge Lorenzo who closed a long gap to join the lead group, and then got past Colin, Casey and Dani to ultimately take second.

The race was white-flagged, indicating that it had become a wet race and riders could change over. Marco Melandri, who had obvious problems with the start of the warmup lap, which persisted to the real start, leaving him well behind the pack, did a bike change, but no else did. Then we were all amazed when Casey signalled a stop when his bike pulled up without power. More Ducati woes; but you have to hand it to Casey - he pretty much walked the bike all the way around the circuit to pull in, take advantage of the white flag rules, and remount in a vain attempt to get a point or two. Also commiseration to James Toseland - he was looking good all weekend, but had a small scrap early on with Dovisioso and crashed out.

The Rossi victory was marvellous however, and brings the tournament to just 3 points separating the top three riders!

Our weekend concluded in true French style with a gourmet meal at one of our favourite small restaurants, Les Saveurs. A splendid meal, washed down with many local wines, and the sharing of many photos and stories took nearly 30 of us well into the night. Le Mans it has to be said closes like a vault on Sunday night, leaving us to fend for ourselves for any nightlife - however we can recommend 'Le Mini Bar' as the best (and only!) pub open to 2 am...

A good time, as they say, was had by all!

On a side note, we had some VIPs come into Le Mans via chartered small aeroplane. With a direct flight from the UK, they landed at the aerodrome immediately adjacent to the circuit, saving a 2.5 drive from Paris. We will be organising these next year - the cost is surprisingly little per person! We had a great time in Le Mans ourselves, and have already confirmed our packages for next year where we will be still bigger, and if possible, better!

Bad! Crazy! The frenetic atmosphere of Mugello has to be experienced to be believed. Rossi's home circuit and the fans go berserk! We have our own English & Italian speaking expert support staff and great package options, including our most deluxe/VIP offering of the tournament in an astonishing hotel with optional Heli transfer! The MotoGP at Mugello is one of the blue ribbon events on the MotoGP calendar and a must-see for any aficionado. The twisty, hilly Tuscan circuit is attended by the most enthusiastic MotoGP fans on the planet – the Italians! The atmosphere is so electric you will feel it buzzing through your veins. At the end of the race the track is opened and fans converge in their thousands in front of the podium – usually to watch hero Valentino Rossi standing in the centre. Speaking of whom - the Doctor has made it six in a row here - it has gotten to the point where winning Mugello is nearly as important as the championship! Needless to say, the excitement this year will be ecstatic!

Spectator viewing at Mugello is very good, although shoulder-to-shoulder sardine style in some sections. For this reason a Grandstand seat is strongly recommended; however they always sell out a long time in advance – the Poggio Secco is our favourite with long panoramic views over the curve of the same name, but if you want to catch the awesome straight (about the fastest in MotoGP), start grid and the mad podium rush, opt for the covered Centrale. All have TV screens. The tickets are regrettably the most expensive in motogp, unless you are certain to attend on Friday we recommend 2 day tickets.

But when only the best will do, we have organised our
Pole Position Club : a private VIP suite on the pit roof featuring full catering, access to terrace and CCTV, and our own private pit and paddock tours. Remember, the MotoGP VIP Village is NOT available at this event for general sales.

We offer a good range of packages at Mugello. We love Florence, and base our packages there so that you can get the best of both biking and Italian culture! Out Classic package in a well-loved 3* hotel is superb value for money, and is actually cheaper than we had the same package in 2007! A great biking destination, our hotels all offer secure bike parking. Our Superior is in a great 4* Villa hotel in the lovely Tuscan hills near Florence. Both packages feature optional Friday track transfers, Friday opening party, Sat/Sun transfers. We also offer as very special options our Sunday Florentine evening winding-down dinner.

Saving the best for last, our top package of the year is the sublime
Royal Package set in a stunning 15th century Palazzo in the heart of old Florence. A VIP opening reception on Friday is followed by our opening party, Saturday we take you to the track in our VIP shuttle, and on Sunday you bypass the worst traffic in MotoGP in our helicopter transfers! Truly the creme de la creme!
VIP NEARLY SOLD OUT - Huge price reduction with 40% OFF. Our private pit roof VIP suite featuring private Paddock and Pit tours nearly sold out. This is the ONLY VIP generally available for Mugello - VIP Village is NOT available.

ROYAL PACKAGE - Last rooms available in our Royal package. Live the GP weekend in style. An exquisite 16th century Palazzo in central Florence. Price includes Helicopter transfer.

LAST TICKETS - Only Poggio Secco 2 day grandstands available in stock but can take request for any bookings. We have access to more tickets on request. Please phone or send email.

Opening Party to be held Friday at the lovely Villa Giotto Park not far from the track. GUEST SPEAKER will be the Privateer 250/125cc Team Matteoni and riders for an exciting insight into racing at the 'bleeding' edge! Food, drink and good cheer to set you up for the weekend. We offer three packages at Mugello to suit different budgets. ALL include track transfers on Sat/Sun and our super opening reception on Friday night with food, drink and special guest speaker.

CLASSIC is in a great 3* hotel in Florence. This is one of our best value packages of the tournament, and the room prices are great for singles as well. In a neighbourhood within easy walk of the centre; and plenty of local pubs and restaurants.

SUPERIOR is in a 4* Villa Hotel about half way between Florence and the circuit. This is better for families owing to the great recreational facilities and quiet village location, and is also a shorter journey in. This is also the venue for our Friday opening party.

Our
ROYAL Package is the top package of the year. In a 15th century palazzo in Florence centre; helicoptering in to the track over the Sunday traffic, this is the one for the VIPs.
Mugello tickets are the most expensive of the tournament. It is a good track for standing areas (Prato) but you will be mobbed by thousands of fans! For grandstands, there are really two main choices: The Poggio Seco is on the back curves on a hill with long views and a good TV. This is better for seeing close up action. Centrale is on the main straight, is covered and the most comfortable. In addition to seeing the awesome start and finish, you will get to see the podium and the traditional podium rush mayhem when Rossi wins...! This is our top VIP package of the year.

Dorna VIP Village is NOT available for this circuit (it is completely consumed by sponsors) so we have taken our own private suite to provide something better... With our VIP club you will get the opportunity to visit the mad crazy Mugello paddock and see one or two of the pits.

For the accommodation package, choose either the
Superior where you will be in a cosy 4* Villa, or the incredible Royal package, flying in on Sunday to land at the track, and spending the nights in an incredible palazzo.

General Information
The Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello is located 30km north of Florence and 100km south of Bologna – the perfect setting for a weekend of high-speed thrills and spills under the Tuscan sun!
Remember if you are coming on a package with us, we can organise airport pickup from most airports.

By air
The nearest airports are Florence (30km to the south), Bologna (100km to the north) and Pisa (120km to the west). Try skyscanner.net to find out what cheap airlines will get you there. From these airports you can get trains or taxis.

By road
From Florence, point your car or bike to the north and find the SS 65, which will take you past Fiesole towards Vaglia. After 22km take the 2nd exit at the roundabout and continue along the SS 551 / SP 550. At San Piero a Sieve take the SS 503 / SP 503 and turn onto the SP 42 after Scarperia. Follow the signs to ‘Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello’.

From Bologna take the A1 and exit at Barberino del Mugello (15km from the circuit). Follow the signs to ‘Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello’ passing close to San Piero a Sieve on the way.

For a more scenic route through the hills, find the ‘Via Faentina’ (SS 302) and wind your way all the way to the circuit via Scarperia.

Whichever way you take, be prepared for significant traffic, especially leaving the circuit. Sit back and enjoy that last coffee! The public car parking is a bit of a hike to the circuit.

By rail
The closest railway stations to Mugello are Borgo S. Lorenzo (8km to the south) and Florence (30km to the south). See http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/ for timetable information. From the station to the circuit you can hail a Radio Taxi (055 4390, 055 4242, 055 4798).

By coach
Florentia Bus provides a link between Florence and Scarperia, the closest town to the circuit. Visit http://www.florentiabus.it/ for timetable.

Put this one high on your 'wish list'. Our parties and packages are in the heart of Barcelona, and since it is one of those classic bike rides, all our hotels have secure garage parking. TWO hospitality options & all stands leave you spoiled for choice! Double up with Mugello for a very special deal! A popular circuit for pre-season testing, Catalunya is arguably one of the best-known tracks to all the riders, especially with its long straights and variety of corners. Also making its way onto the Formula 1 race schedule, Catalunya has been beautifully designed to handle both the supreme force and speed of the four-wheelers, and the frenetic splicing and dicing of the two-wheelers. Not to mention some off-season punishing of the surface by monster trucks!

No matter how familiar the riders are with the circuit itself, the track always throws up unique challenges to the teams and riders: a rough and bumpy surface, high tyre-wear and rapidly changing wind conditions which turn both the preparation and riding into a war of strategy and endurance. However the verdict is in: Rossi rates it among his favourites.

Witnessing the on-circuit dueling is great from most viewpoints, but our favourite spots are the north loop - B/G/C (all about the same) where riders like to show off after winning; and the covered Stand I which not only protects you from the Spanish sun, but is on the last and always exciting corner. This has a particularly nice VIP Village as well – with great facilities and just over the start grid. In fact, in our view, this circuit has the best facilities overall of the tournament, and is a very well-organised event.

Not that it needed any more cool points, but this is in Barcelona after all! If you have never been to this amazing city, then we urge you to cut the Friday practice sessions and join our private tour from a local guide (and moto enthusiast!). This is the city of Gaudi and dozens of other splendours. But it is also one of the most modern and stylish cities in the world – Barcelona is where the rest of the world will be in 10-20 years.

Our packages are in the heart of the city of course, and we offer our Classic package in a lovely 3*+ hotel; our Superior in the St Mortiz 4* and for our deluxe we feature the highest-rated 5* hotel in Barcelona – The Arts. All come with our usual shuttle service on Sat/Sun, guides (Spanish speaking some!), and our Catalunya 2008 merchandise. Our hotels all feature secure parking as well – great for bikers!

We kick off the weekend with a party in the heart of Barcelona where, in addition to the good wine, beer and canapés, we will be sure to have some special presentations and a look at the action of last year.

Let us know if you want to stay a few extra days to explore Barcelona – we'll join you!
NEW! We have a few VIP Village owing to cancellation. Top hospitality at Catalunya with pit lane walks, paddock tours, private grandstand.

Paddock: We have 2 places at Catalunya for our ClubGP: spend a day or weekend in the pits and paddock with our sponsored team. Very rare opportunity; call for details. See also http://www.polepositionvip.com/clubgp.htm

Opening reception Friday at the fabulous Hotel Arts with special guest speaker Liam Schubert from Alice Team who will give us a fascinating insight from inside Ducati racing.

You may choose any ticket with any package when booking.

Our packages all include 3 nights B&B, track transfers and access to our guides.

Your initial choice is Barcelona or beach?

We have a super value
Beach package at a 4* beach resort an hour up the coast from Barcelona. This is basic B&B with transfers, and an opening drink on Friday night. Of course our guides will be on hand; and best of all is the price: 279 EUR (224 GBP) plus tickets.

In Barcelona itself, our
Classic package is in a great 3*+ hotel right in the heart of the city. Our Deluxe package is in the 5* Hotel Arts - the top hotel in Barcelona - and in addition features special merchandise and dedicated guide. For the Barcelona customers we have an opening reception Friday with food, drink and guest speaker.
Catalunya is blessed with many good viewing positions and top quality facilities. All tickets allow you to wander the track to see from all angles; you are only allowed to sit in your designated grandstand of course.

Covered stands are good to keep out the sun (or unlikely rain); B & C get you extended views of the exciting final loop. Tough choice, really!

We offer two hospitality options at the track:
The MotoGP VIP Village is the top facility, situated over the pit row and features pit lane walks, paddock tours and top catering. There is also a private VIP grandstand.

We operate our own Pole Position Club from a private suite above the main grandstand. This features CCTV, food, drinks, and best of all customers can come on our private pit and paddock tours to visit some of our sponsored teams! This is better/more expert access than the VIP Village and is thus better for enthusiasts. The VIP Village is better for corporate groups.

In either case, not that there is anything wrong with our Classic/3* hotel, but you will want to consider our Deluxe package at the impeccable 5* Hotel Arts, part of the Ritz-Carlton group. Impressively towering right on the waterfront, this is probably the top hotel in Barcelona; and you will be treated as a VIP throughout.

General Information

The Circuit de Catalunya is located 29km north of Barcelona, in Spain. It is easily accessible by car, train and three airports within an 80km radius of the circuit.

By rail (trains: www.renfe.es)
We recommend leaving the car behind and catching a train, especially if staying in Barcelona. The circuit is located within walking distance to Montmel train station which is part of the Barcelona rail network (Number 2 line - green). During the race weekend a transfer will be available from the Montmel train station to the Circuit de Catalunya. However you will likely be at the action quicker if you walk there by following a signposted route from the station. It should only take about 20 minutes and there will be thousands of fans to keep you company.

By air (www.skyscanner.net for cheap flight options)
The nearest airports are Barcelona International Airport (known as El Prat de Llobregat, 55 km to the south), Sabadell (35km to the south-west and ideal for private flights) and Girona-Costa Brava (80km to the north-east). RyanAir flies Doncaster to Girona; can take a train to Barcelona, trains take about 1:20. We can arrange airport collection from any airport.

By road
The circuit lies about half an hour away from Barcelona. From Sant Adria de Besos, continue along the B-10 until you find the C-58, and then the C-33. Take Exit 2 onto the C-17 towards Parets Vic Puigcerda, and a right onto the C-35 after 1.5km. Follow the signs or the convoy of other fans to the track from here.

Car rental
Contact our partners at Avis, with several rental locations throughout the region to suit your travel needs. All our hotels feature secure parking for bikes and cars.

By coach
If you are staying in the city, ask us if we have space on our coaches. Sagales will be running a 7 EUR return Barcelona-to-circuit service during race weekend. Details and ticket sales information can be found at http://www.sagales.com/

Get there Thursday for the Day of Champions, we are big supporters of Riders for Health. Our opening party in 2007 was awesome, backstage at the concert with Toseland and others; and this year we will have several top hospitality options! Built in 1931 the world-renown Donington Park hosted only eight years of motorcycle racing before it was closed during World War II and lay in disrepair for 40 years. When Tom Wheatcroft privately funded the resurrection of the circuit in 1977 nobody believed him when he told them he’d bring racing back to Donington.

Now deservedly the heart of British motor racing after defying the critics, Donington has retained much of the old spirit that brought motorcycles to the original 1.957-mile track.

This track has it all, including the notorious combination of Craner Curves-into-Old Hairpin and two screaming straights known as Wheatcroft and Starkey’s, both separated by the 180-degree Melbourne Loop which was included in 1985 to increase the length to 2.5 miles in order to meet official motorcycle GP circuit length requirements. Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa have both taken 25 MotoGP winning points here in the last two years and 2007 saw Casey take the flag (a delighted Colin Edwards 2nd!)

Most spectators will be viewing with general tickets which provide good overall viewing, assisted by large TV screens. Grandstand capacity is limited and early purchase is recommended for fans who want to overlook the start-finish grid or the exciting first corner at Redgate. It has to be said, Donington is not the most comfortable of circuits - something we have addressed head on with TWO hospitality units to escape the hordes (and the rain). Choose the MotoGP
VIP Village for the top corporate experience with pit walks and more. Our Pole Position Club on Goddard (last corner) with private paddock and pit tours is for the serious aficionado. Donington itself is undergoing refurbishment, we are really looking forward to it!

Our packages here are some of the best we do - our
'superior' package is set at the Airport Thistle Hotel, where you will rub shoulders with many teams and riders. Best of all, we were in and out in less than 20 minutes last year! And new this year we have secured the finest hotel in the region for a sublime weekend experience just in Castle Donington in a stunning setting: who'd have thought, Donington a place you won't want to leave!

Our opening party last year was legendary - we sponsored the backstage for the rock concert, where our guests exclusively hung out (indeed, many were ON stage!) meeting James Toseland and the others for a truly memorable experience! And if we don't see our sponsored British 125cc rider Danny Webb on the podium, he will certainly pay us a visit in our hospitality unit or opening party!
MEET THE British Young Guns! Rising Stars Bradley Smith, Danny Webb, Scott Redding and British Red Bull Rookies (and a few others!) will be on hand for our opening reception Friday. Free to all package customers; others by invitation.

NEW! Pole Position Club: Enjoy the new hospitality suite at Goddard Corner with catering, champagne welcome and live race updates. All for 650 EUR

NEW! Our Superior package at the Airport Thistle (walking distance to track, rub shoulders with Rookies and other riders and teams) price has been REDUCED thanks to falling pound. Now just
GBP 495 for 3 nights B&B, opening party, Sat rock concert, transfers, guides and loads of fun!

RANDY MAMOLA RIDES closed. If you are interested in a ride with Randy at Donington, give us a call and we will try to squeeze you in.

Finally Donington gets a Deluxe package - 2 nights (or more) at the exquisite Priest House Hotel, about 10 minutes from track. Very limited space.

We offer 2 packages for Donington this year to suite various budget ranges. ALL hotels are in Castle Donington, 10 minutes or less to the circuit (when no traffic, but still very rapid on race day!)

Classic Package is in a 3* Hotel at the Airport. We are sponsors and agents for the Rookies Cup, and those of you staying here will meet some of the youngsters. Very cool!

The
Superior Package is at the 4* Airport Thistle. This is the hotel used by many teams and riders; the bar in the evening can be very interesting!

And finally we are able to offer a
Deluxe package at the top hotel in the region: the superb 5* Priest House Hotel. This will sell out quickly.

All packages include transfers on Sat/Sun, our opening party with special guests from paddock; and of course top attention from our on-site guides. The Classic and Deluxe packages are on 2 night minimum; 3 nights for the Superior.
Donington has about the worst number of grandstand seats to overall attendance. To avoid the scrum in the general admission areas, we recommend purchase of a Grandstand seat.

However to really enjoy the event, our two hospitality options present superb choices:
The
VIP Village is inside Redgate corner (turn 1) and is a superb facility with pit lane walks, paddock tours and luxury catering. Choose this for the most 'upmarket/corporate' experience.

The
Pole Position Club is inside Goddard corner (the final curve) and in our opinion is a better option for viewing. You have full view of the start/finish straight and of the Foggy Esses. With CCTV inside you will miss nothing. There is a champagne welcome and parking per 2 passes. Then just sit back and enjoy!

We can provide any services you need at Donington, from top trackside hospitality, 5* hotels, private transfers, helicopter service from virtually anywhere in UK and more.

After several years, we have finally been able to secure the top hotel in the region, the sublime 5* Priest House Hotel in Castle Donington. Join our top VIPs and Managing Director there for our Deluxe package (with only 2 night minimum).

At the track:
The
VIP Village is inside Redgate corner (turn 1) and is a superb facility with pit lane walks, paddock tours and luxury catering. Choose this for the most 'upmarket/corporate' experience.

The
Pole Position Club is inside Goddard corner (the final curve) and in our opinion is a better option for viewing. We add private paddock tours and pit visits to one of our sponsored teams, so while the facility itself is not quite as fancy as the VIP Village, this is the better choice for true aficionados.

Finally we can offer up to two places on our very exclusive
ClubGP (not available online). This give you a full day or weekend in the paddock as a guest of one of our sponsored teams. Riders meetings, pit tour, and in-paddock hospitality (with paddock pass). Call us on this one: +44 7973 748591 -- there are only 2 places for this.

General Information
Donington Park is located in North-West Leicestershire in the centre of England, approximately 190 km from London. Thanks to its location just off the M1 and next-door to East Midlands Airport it is arguably one of the easiest circuits to reach.

By air
The nearest airport is East Midlands, conveniently located adjacent to the circuit (3km away) and servicing operators such as bmi, British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair. Birmingham Airport is another option (45km away). Try skyscanner.net to find out what airlines will get you there.

By road
The circuit lies approximately two hours away from London. Leave London via Edgeware Road (A5), passing Barnet, and continue straight until you reach the intersection with North Circular Road. Follow the signs to the M1 and continue along it for approximately 185km. Past Shepshed, look out for the A42 at exit 23a, and join it momentarily until you reach a roundabout. At the roundabout turn onto Ashby Road (A453), which passes adjacent to East Midlands Airport, and follow the signs until you reach the circuit.

Car rental
Contact our partners at Avis, with several rental locations throughout the region to suit your travel needs.

By rail
Both Derby and Loughborough stations are approximately 20km away from the circuit in opposite directions, which would take about 20-25 minutes by taxi (www.nationalrail.co.uk). Remeber to book your tickets in advance for cheaper rates and reserved seating.

By bus
Try the Skylink service from Nottingham to East Midlands Airport (www.skylink.co.uk). Alternatively take buses to either Castle Donington or East Midlands Airport from either Loughborough or Derby.

By Coach
From nearly any city and airport you can get a coach to East Midlands airport (www.nationalexpress.com). From there the circuit is in walking distance, about 20 mins. Remember to book in advance for your choice of arrival time. Buses will be filling up quick.

Come once and you will see why. This is the oldest event of the tournament, after 50 years the Dutch have it all worked out... So have we with a great package in a nearby village with private chalets, and a bus to the legendary Friday night street party in Assen. And the VIP option is superb... The TT Circuit Assen is known all throughout the motorcycle world as a twisty, technical circuit with banked corners that make for sticky cornering and superb spectator viewing from the grandstands or earth banks that surround the circuit. Combined with a 970m top-speed straight and an unconventional track design dating from 1955 that keeps riders’ fingertips gripped on the levers, it is easy to see why thousands of MotoGP fans from all over the world flock to “The Cathedral” of motorcycling, year after year, on the last Saturday in June.

Recent modifications to the current circuit considerably reduced the original 1955 track length from 7.705km to the current 4.555km, giving us the A-Style Assen TT Circuit that we know and love (or hate!) today. Always an exciting venue: Who could forget 2006 when Colin Edwards lost his first GP victory on the final corner? Or Rossi's relentless pursuit of Stoner in 2007 resulting in one of his most clinical victories?

Friday (and Thursday) are general admission days, you want to use the time to explore the circuit's many excellent viewing locations. Choosing grandstands for Sunday is a harder choice - do you like the aggressive final straight leading into Geert Timmer chicane (choose
Winterdijk ) or prefer the opening loop - a great panoramic view of this is best seen from TT World . The VIP Village is superb - landing you across from Winterdijk with private grandstands, pit walks, paddock tours and of course luxury catering.

For Assen we have two package options. On the more economical side, and perfect for groups and bikers, we have secured a beautiful rural bungalow park in the nearby village of Vledder as our
Special Package . All accommodation is in your own private chalet set amidst the lake and woods of the nature park. Each sleeps up to 6 in 3 twin bedded rooms. The package is dinner, bed and breakfast for 3 days, plus transfers to track and a visit to the legendary Friday night Assen Street Party, so pretty all-inclusive! Your only responsibility will be the beer! (and we even provide that on Thursday night!). Very secure parking.

If towns are more your style, stay in our 4* hotel in the centre of Groningen in our
Superior Package , including 3 nights B&B with track transfers.

Both packages gain you our Thursday opening party; and for those of you not ready to rest your heads Saturday after the races, join us on our maddest post-race excursion of the year -- pedalling the
beer-wagon tour of Groningen! 9/May

Assen tickets nearly sold out everywhere!

We have three general options:
HOSPITALITY
TWO options here, our private suite in the
VIP Village for the absolute top experience; and the new TT Lounge at half the price of VIP Village. This was just launched in March, and is selling very quickly - this is our top recommendation!

GRANDSTANDS
Stands are reserved on Saturday only, you have general admission which permit access to most stands and grass areas on Thu/Fri. Our suggestions:
Ossebroeken : new stand on northern loop - great viewing, TV. This is INCLUDED in our TT Lounge.
Haarboch : stand on the end of the main straight - good view of braking into first corner
Winterdijk - along the Winterdijk straight just before the final Geert Timmer chicane - our seats are close to the penultimate corner, always a lot of action and good TV view.

STANDING
Assen has lots of great viewing spots; general admission gets crowded however!
There are no 5* hotels in the region, however our Superior package in the 4* Groningen hotel is quite nice and puts you in a super town.

Trackside we have two options, our private suite in the
VIP Village for the absolute top experience; with a great location across from Winderdijk with a private grandstand, luxury catering, and of course pit lane walks and paddock tours. With our private suite we add hostesses, guest speakers, and of course extra attention!

There is also the new
TT Lounge at half the price of VIP Village. Saturday only, this is a catered pavilion near TT World stand, with private grandstand tickets. This was just launched in March, and is selling very quickly. General Information
The circuit is located 3km outside the city of Assen, to the southwest, and is easily accessible by car and train. It is also a nice ride from the UK and most of Europe, a great option especially as you can park your bike securely right outside your bungalow.

By air
You can fly direct to Groningen (30km away) or Amsterdam Schipol (195km away) and take the convenient train (about 2 hrs). Try skyscanner.com to find out what airlines will get you there.

By road
If driving or biking from Amsterdam, leave via the A1 in the east of the city, and continue until you reach the A28 which takes you all the way to Assen. Leave the A28 at Exit 32 (Assen-Zuid). Follow the signs to the circuit from here. Allow about 2 hours for the journey.

If travelling from the UK you’ll likely pass through Belgium via Gent and continue towards Antwerp in the Netherlands along the A14 and then head towards Utrecht via the A1 and A27 where you’ll join the A28 and continue directly to Assen from here.

By rail
There is a regular train from Amsterdam to Assen which takes approximately 2 hours (www.ns.nl). The train from Amsterdam Airport Schipol takes just under 2 ½ hours. Both can be booked on line but but buying tickets when you arrive is pretty easy.

By bus
There is a handy shuttle bus at the Assen train station that will take you straight to the track. Tickets last year were 5 EUR, and they run frequently.

To the Bungalows by public transport
Take the train to Steenwijk (there is a direct train from Schipol Airport). From the train station you can either take a taxi, or take bus 27 in the direction of Frederiksoord. At the Frederiksoord stop, you take a taxi to Vledder (about 2 km). If you would like us to arrange the taxi please contact us at least a week before.

Also about the biggest event, it is almost entirely seated. We base in Chemnitz, and in case you don't get enough of that Saxon brew at the track, we have a great party in the local Ratskeller! Our surprise hit of 2007! Celebrating its 80-year jubilee in July, the Sachsenring was known for most of its life as an 8km course held on public roads, and even once hosted Giacomo Agostini on an MV Augusta. With developments in technology in the late 1980s dramatically increasing speed, power and therefore risk of injury and death, racing through the village became too dangerous for riders and spectators alike, so the circuit was redesigned to meet new standards.

Coinciding with the fall of the Iron Curtain around 1990, the current 3.671 km circuit was built in 1996 and retains little semblance of the old track, with MotoGP first arriving here in 1998. Low-gear, paint-swapping corners now dominate much of the track, allowing the pent-up power of the machines to be released only after the final turns onto the two straights in the final section. Although shorter than the main straight, the back downhill straight is the fastest point on the track leading into the sweeping Sachsen turn which always has a lot of action - hence why we recommend the stands 12,13 and the catered 14; however there is good viewing all over the circuit.

Pedrosa ran away with it in 2007, with Hayden taking third behind Capirossi, making it a welcome change to the normal season - Honda and Michelin suddenly looking good again, with the notable exception of Rossi. This tortuous track tests tyres as much as riders!

We had a blast in 2007, with an opening party at the Ratskeller featuring a speaker from inside the Pramac Ducati pit, and Saturday night found us on an impromptu pub crawl of Chemnitz. Trackside the weather was perfect with lots of action to see, as the Rookies Cup, German Superbikes and the exciting Supersides were run.

Sachsenring is one of the best value MotoGPs of the tournament; as a quick glance at our packages will show. Our
classic package puts you in a 3* hotel (newly renovated to 4* standard) in the centre of Chemnitz; ready for all the town action. It is also great for Single accommodation. Our superior package is in the top hotel in the town, the 4* Renaissance. In both cases we take you to the track and back on Sat/Sun (optionally on Fri) and to our Fri opening reception. Saturday evening for those keen, you can stay at the track and enjoy the free rock concert, and we will take you home later (small additional cost); and Sunday we have an optional 'winding down' dinner which usually ends up in an informal pub tour of the town! Finally, if you can make it Thursday, the circuit offers full paddock passes and put lane walks for sale. A great opportunity to spot your favourite riders up close! Of course our staff are on hand at all times to ensure you have a great time! LAST MINUTE:
We have a couple of rooms in our 3* hotel in Chemnitz. Just EUR 99 per room per night (2 night min) double, 75 EUR single

General Information
The Sachsenring circuit is located in Hohenstein-Ernstthal near Chemnitz in Saxony, eastern Germany.

By air
The circuit is approximately 95km from Dresden Airport and 150km from Leipzig/Halle Airport. Try skyscanner.net to find out what cheap airlines will get you there. Also consider flying in Berlin or Prague and then taking train.

By road
Via the A72 motorway, use exit Stollberg-NORD and follow the brown 'Sachsenring'-signs. Turn to the right at the next traffic lights and pass through Lugau all the way down into Oberlungwitz. There you come to a T-junction in the valley where you turn left. Go straight on at the next two traffic lights. At the third traffic lights (there is a VW dealer on the left) you turn right into the industrial estate, go straight on and turn right after passing the 'Reifen Walther' garage. After about 300 metres you will see a large green gate on the left - the entrance to the Sachsenring.

Via the A4 motorway, from Dresden in the East or Köln in the West, use exit Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Following the brown 'Sachsenring' signs, drive on the old Sachsenring towards Oberlungwitz.
WATCH OUT - right after the yellow 'Oberlungwitz' place-name sign there has been a radar trap in previous years, so slow down in time! Turn left at the next traffic lights (there is a VW dealer on the right), go straight on and turn right after the 'Reifen Walther' garage. After about 300 metres you will see a big green gate on the left - the entrance to Sachsenring.

From Dresden airport (around 95 km), follow the A4 motorway for approximately 90km towards Eisenach and Frankfurt/M. until you get to the exit Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Turn left and continue along the B180 trunk road, following the brown 'Sachsenring' signs, as above.

From Leipzig/Halle airport (around 150 km), follow the A14 towards Dresden. At motorway intersection Nossen switch over to the A4 motorway and drive towards Eisenach / Frankfurt/Main until you get to the exit Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Turn left and go along the B180 trunk road, following the 'Sachsenring' signs, as above.

By rail and bus
Deutsche Bahn provides domestic and local rail and bus services throughout Germany. From Dresden Airport the trip takes between 1 ½ and 2 hours, with a train and bus combination. From Leipzig/Halle Airport the journey takes up to 2 ¾ hours with 3 connection changes. Alternatively you could walk approximately 1.5km from the station to the circuit and cut out the bus connection.

See www.diebahn.de for detailed timetable, itinerary and pricing information (select “Internat. Guests” on the home page and search for connections to Hohenstein-Ernstthal). Also can see www.vlak.cz especially if coming via Prague.

Getting to your hotel
We always recommend a local map! Hotel an der Oper is very central; an easy walk from the train station. Take a short taxi to the Penta Hotel*. There is secure parking at the Penta Hotel, ask at the reception of the Oper for garage access.

* Penta Hotel Chemnitz was formerly Renaissance Chemnitz. Address remains the same

This is an amazing viewer's track, you have to see the Corkscrew in the flesh to really appreciate the terror! As the biggest agency at Laguna we offer a wide range from our private VIP Village and several hospitality chalets. And our parties in 2007 were the talk of the town! Just come to find out (book early!) Here at Pole Position, we have a normally friendly co-operative team. One question guaranteed to draw blood is "Who's going to Laguna this year"? Why? Because this is the event more than any other that really sets our pulses racing, and is a destination that just spells fun!

Let's start with the circuit: absolutely the most challenging circuit of the tournament, Laguna was purpose-built for motorcycle racing. Narrow, hilly and twisty, there isn't a moment to relax. The road surface is a bit bumpy, to be generous, and some of the curves were clearly designed by a committee of evil trolls. Coming off a slight rise, the entry to the infamous turns 7-8 'Corkscrew' is one of the most breathtaking points on any track in motogp. Standing next to it is scary enough - now think of it coming off a 145mph approach speed!

This is a great viewing circuit - all our tickets give you general admission access so you can see it all! And come prepared to shop - the merchandise is like a major shopping mall, and the food and drink concessions are not bad either!

To help ensure you get the maximum opportunity to enjoy the most electrifying event of the year, we have implemented a simple philosophy: put together the kind of packages that we, as bike-mad followers of the Doctor, the Tornado and the Kentucky Kid, would like to experience. And have we! Not one, not even two, but THREE private trackside hospitality options:
* The
Turn 5 club , an oasis at one of the fastest corners of the track
* The
Pole Position Club - superior catering and a terrace right at pole position
* The
VIP Village Suite - the top experience of the race in our private air conditioned room as part of the official VIP Village, including pit lane walks and paddock tours.

But it isn't all trackside! Sleep will be optional for those of you who really want to maximise the weekend: We start with Friday evening drinks at the 'Knuckles' sports bar; Saturday night we repeat last year's astonishingly popular 'Beach Party' right in the middle of the Cannery Row mayhem; Sunday we have an optional 'winding down' dinner which will be sure to keep jaws wagging. Our packages are based in top hotel accommodation - the Superior 4* Hyatt Regency Monterey or our new Deluxe /VIP at the new 5* Clement Intercontinental on Cannery Row. With optional motorcycle tours tossed in, this will be a weekend to remember!
