Grand Prix Of China 2008
The Hotel Equatorial
Shanghai is the most exotic event of the season; and sure to be a fascinating weekend! Who will forget Dani Pedrosa winning his first MotoGP, in his rookie year! (He even smiled!) or Rossi's bad luck in 2006? 2007 was a spectacular event - this was the GP that Casey really made believers of us all - clocking 333kph down the awesome back straight of the circuit, totally outclassing the Yamaha. On a local note, as big fans of Czech rider Lukas Pesek, his victory in the 125cc was the first GP victory of a Czech rider since 1966 (Frantisek Stastny on a Jawa if you needed to know!)
The track is a monster with plenty of action spots and super-challenging for all riders. The opening corners are a work of pure evil, and as noted the back straight really separates the Ducs from the rest... Most of the stands are closed during the MotoGP (this is mainly an F1 track) but there are still a number of vantage points around that all can access.
The circuit is ultra-modern, great facilities for riders and fans; you can pick up all sorts of interesting merchandise and even the queues for the riders' signature tables are not too long. If you show up on Friday you will have the place to yourself.
Our group in 2007 represented about half the VIP Village and we felt about half the Westerners there! The event at the VIP level has such a small attendance that you feel part of a club, access to the paddock is easy and the rides and teams are all quite relaxed. The paddock itself is amazing - set in an artificial lagoon with roomy team offices set on little islands.
The event is set quite a way out of central Shanghai. Unless you are a real 'China hand' this is an event that we strongly recommend joining the package. Of course we can sell the tickets only to you, but the 'hassle factor' can be quite high and of course you don't share experiences with other like minded adventuresome moto-heads! Also our hotel is superb value for money; you want to go with the club floor on this to get the panoramic skyline bar and free drinks in the evening!
Your weekend begins as you step off your plane (you make your own flight arrangements, we can advise) and we can send a car to meet you. Check into our 4* hotel in Shanghai. Friday night we have an opening reception in the hotel; Saturday and Sunday we take you to the track and back, with our guides on hand all the time to help out with anything. Sunday we arrange a group meal in the heart of Shanghai and then repair to some local clubs along the famous Bund. Never know who you'll meet!
